The periodical, considered internationally to be the “wine bible”, selected our wine due to its exceptional value for money
2019 began with some great news for our winery, and in particular for one of our most popular wines, which very much encapsulates Sardinia and Italian winemaking per se: Vermentino di Sardegna DOC “Aragosta” was listed as one of the world’s 100 best wines thanks to its impressive quality and its excellent value for money.
The periodical that trained its spotlights on our wine was Wine Spectator, the prestigious title considered internationally to be the “wine bible”. The popular magazine put together its “2018 Top Values”, a special ranking of the world’s 100 most well-priced wines, sub-divided by type: white, red, rosé and sparkling. The selection features an exclusive array of wines that deliver excellent quality for a reasonable price: all of the wines in the list have a rating of 88/100 or higher and are produced in sufficient quantities to make them widely available internationally.
Aragosta takes its place among the 100 best-value wines (across all categories) and, specifically, as one of the 40 best-value whites in the world.
This special list contains wines not only from Italy, France and Spain, but also from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Chile and California, amongst many other winegrowing areas.
Vermentino di Sardegna DOC Aragosta 2017 appears within the “Light Whites” category, for wines that are fresh, light-bodied and vibrant in style.
The wine from Alghero is described in the following terms: “Snappy acidity and a streak of salinity structure this aromatic white, which offers a pretty mix of peach skin, Meyer lemon peel and pink grapefruit sorbet flavours”.
Our Vermentino Aragosta di Alghero (also available in Vermentino Aragosta Frizzante and Aragosta Rosé versions) is a time-honoured wine that has been a part of the lives of many individuals and families since the 1950s. Over the years, it has become a firm favourite of wine enthusiasts not just in Sardinia and the other Italian regions, but also outside Italy.
Today around 2.5 million bottles of the Aragosta line are produced per year and distributed right around the world. Through the decades, this wine has quietly reached several milestones, making the most of the quality, passion and courage of the winemakers, taking the city of Alghero, the island of Sardinia and, indeed, the whole Italian peninsula with it on a journey that has seen it showcase what is a very special part of the world.
The labels of the new wines in the Aragosta line are emblazoned with the entire logo of the winery, featuring the word “Alghero” very clearly, with a view to boosting the recognition of this city in all corners of the globe.
The president and the whole staff of the winery, along with all of the growers, employees and partners, are proud of this result and would like to thank all of those who reward the winery day after day by choosing Santa Maria La Palma wines.
